Desert Mountain Tribe

London-based psych-rock trio Desert Mountain Tribe are to play The Victoria in Swindon on February 24th for a warm-up gig ahead of their North American tour in spring 2017.

Drawing comparisons with Wolf Alice, Kasabian and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the bands unique sound has been described by Classic Rock as darkly woozy, garage rock n roll when they made Runway their Track Of The Week in the run-up to Christmas 2015.

Debut album Either That Or The Moon was released in the spring of 2016 to a wealth of positive notices including respected platforms Drowned In Sound, Louder Than War and Classic Rock. Select cuts from the album soon picked up support from within BBC 6 Music including Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne and Chris Hawkins.

The band have recently notched up memorable live performances on their hugely successful European tour; including sell-out shows in London and Rotterdam and recent stand-out performances at Rockaway Beach, where Desert Mountain Tribe were one of the most talked about sets, alongside headliners Saint Etienne, Suede and Killing Joke. Indeed DMTs set played at The Lofthouse in Nottingham was selected by Drowned in Sound as one of their 10 Shows That Shook 2016, alongside The Manic Street Preachers Liberty Stadium performance and LCD Soundsystems return to Glastonbury.

SWA Charity Night + Rorkes Drift

SWA Community Services Team are holding a Band Night to raise awareness in the local community of the support we can provide to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. All proceeds raised will enable us to continue to provide vital support to those in need.

The event will take place on Saturday 25th February 2017 at the Vic, Old Town, Swindon and doors will open at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £5+p&p and can be purchased below. Age 18+ only.

Headlining the event will be local 4 piece rock covers band Rorkes Drift. Supporting acts Danny Makes 4 and Charlotte Fox will entertain with female fronted pop!

This event would not be possible without the generosity of The Vic, our Bands and sponsors, Haart Estate Agents and The Hills Group, Swindon.

SWA are humbled by the support of our local community and we look forward to seeing you there!

Please purchase your tickets below, as tickets are selling fast and limited availability.

Rorkes Drift is a 4 piece rock covers band from the Swindon area. We cover all sorts, from Metallica through to Bon Jovi and everything else in between. We pride ourselves on putting on a fun performance with enough cheesy one liners and banter to put a smile on the most serious of faces.

We will also throw a few curve balls into the set, so you are never quite sure what song is coming next. Being able to tailor a set for certain venues is no problem, with the option for a heavier or lighter set if required.
If you are looking for a fun night out, rocking tunes, audience participation, then get yourselves along to one of our gigs.

ALAN REED & THE DAUGHTERS OF EXPEDIENCY

For more than 25 years Alan Reed was the unmistakeable voice of Scots Progressive Rock legends Pallas. His was the power and emotional intensity at the heart of classics such as Sanctuary, Ratracing and The Cross and the Crucible.

Since going solo Alan has release an acoustic EP, Dancing with Ghosts, and a full-length album, First in a Field of One, which married the sweep and ambition of progressive rock with accessible tunes and a celtic sensibility.

He hass toured extensively, supporting It Bites, performed at the bi-annual Marillion Weekend in the Netherlands, and supported Genesis legend, Steve Hackett on a concert tour: Including a gig at the Royal Albert Hall.

He is now about to release his second-full length solo album, Honey on the Razors Edge, This marks a return to a harder-edged sound closer to his work with Pallas, whilst keeping the accessibility and lyricism of his debut.

Wasuremono

WASUREMONO
Wasuremono - 忘れ物 (English translation something left behind)

On other days a four piece Indie, Krautrock, Dream-pop band from Bradford-on-Avon, South West England. Formed in 2013 by lead singer William Southward through his love of producing and recording cinematic soundscapes.

The band have recently released their explosive EP/Album Kaboom and been championed by Steve Lamacq and Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music. Featured on both Lavernes and Lamacqs recommends playlist and chosen as Lamacqs - Lamacq Livener (winner stays on) for 2 whole weeks.

A marvellous little curio of a record - Steve Lamacq

What a belter. Current favourite of mine - Lauren Laverne

Records this good dont just come about by chance - Dancing about Architecture

The music washes over me like a warm shower, in a beautiful field, on a sunny day whilst having you feet kissed by angels - Fresh on the Net.

Wowza! - Dermot OLeary, BBC Radio 2.

FAMILIARS
Familiars make dark atmospheric alt- rock/ pop songs. Sweeping soundscapes, majestic melodies and razor sharp dynamics.

...based around a piano oriented core sound, then using other musical weapons in their arsenal to bolt on sonic designs that range from the fragile, spacey and evocative to the driven, dynamic and robust as each passage of each song requires.

And when you take all of those aspects and give the band a stage to broadcast from, the whole thing just takes flight and expands in wonderful and often unexpected directions.
'They become big without losing the delicacy of their music, they manage to drive the point home through well co-ordinated playing and thoughtful dynamics rather than just the usual rock and roll approach of merely cranking everything up, and they retain a slightly dark undercurrent without resorting to melancholic cliché or gothic imagery. Proof that rock music can be both big and clever Dancing About Architecture

CATGOD
Musical collective based in Oxford combining soul and trip-hop sounds with female-male vocal harmonies. A strong rhythmical feel runs through the songs drawing influences from latin beats, soul grooves and more modern trip hop. This combines with melodic vocal lines and lyrical guitar work. Their influences include Nile Rogers, John Martyn, Otis Redding and Massive Attack.

Professor Elemental + The Real Cheesemakers + Corky + Poetman

THE PROFESSOR RETURNS!

After an incredible first show in 2016, we are delighted to be bringing back the undisputed king of Chap Hop to Swindon!

Last time out, his witty-rap improv was superb! I love it when an audience can get under the skin of an act, and The Prof gives plenty of opportunity to an audience to give quips and heckles for him to react to! The speed at the returns in astonishing, this is a performer at the top of his game.

AND he comes with an undeniable set of amazing support slots!

Honestly one of the best line ups we havve done in Swindon, but you dont need the hard sell, you are experienced gig goers and you know how good our gigs are, that leaves me with little to say, except see the discussion for videos non the acts, and be prepared to fall in love!

**Note** we will probably run slightly quicker than the set times listed below, as its soloists, we dont have any real change overs....

£8 adv. £10 otd. We expect strong sales again this time, so I encourage advance tickets to save the £2!

Doors 8pm.

The Night of The Ocelot

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud to announce The Ocelot will be running an evening of live musical entertainment at The Victoria completely free of charge, bringing you some of the most impressive acts from the wider Ocelotshire region!

We have brought together a damn fine line-up if we do say so ourselves, with a real quality and charm about each and every act!

// FREE ENTRY \
// THE VICTORIA, SWINDON \
// 8PM \
// 16+ \

********* LITTLE BROTHER ELI *********
Our headliners for the evening are truly a force to be reckoned with. Hailing from Oxford, Little Brother Eli are champions of the bluesy garage rock sound, with acts like Jack White and his associates immediately coming to mind when you stick on their latest release Oceans (which was released on YouTube in February)

They are a band that has drawn the attention of national press including TeamRock, BBC 6Music and more captivating audiences with their driving sound and spectacularly written tunes that step the border between classic influences and a plan for the future.
The band was formed in Oxford during early 2013 by bassist Josh Rigal and vocalist Alex Grew.

The pair were joined by guitarist Adam Stowe and drummer Benji Page who began sharing their eclectic mix of musical influences along with lap steel specialist Tom Williams, and their influence is spreading exponentially. They have already been announced for several festival slots this year including Are You Listening, Wildfire and Witney Music Festival.

We cannot emphasise enough how happy we are to have these boys as part of The Night of The Ocelot, and we know that you will be dancing the night away at The Vic when Little Brother Eli get into their groove.

Check them out online at: www.littlebrothereli.com

********* HIP ROUTE *********

If you havent heard these guys already, we will be hugely surprised. We might even be shocked!

Hip Route are a slide guitar wielding, rootsy blues rocking trio from the Swindon area, so weve got the local angle covered in a big way here!

In all honesty, these guys could have easily been our headliners for the night, they are simply incredible live with front-man Jim Blairs immense guitar skills shining out amidst a brilliantly skilled rhythm section to create a wall of almost primal, driving and pulsating music. Youll be involuntarily tapping your feet within seconds, guaranteed.

Check them out online via: www.hiproute.com

********* BRADLEY COWTAN *********

Young Bradley hails from Royal Wootton Bassett and currently studies at the Academy of Music and Sound in central Swindon, pushing his brand of thoughtful, charming acoustic pop across the local scene.

Releasing his Catfish Part 2 EP via a live BBC Wiltshire session in February, Bradley has impressed us with his professionalism and dedication to his music, and thoroughly deserves the spotlight we threw on him in last months Ocelot Presents.

The Night of The Ocelot is all about celebrating our regions music scene and presenting people with the very best that the area has to offer, including the up and coming artists on your doorstep. To this end, we think Mr Cowtan is the best opener for the job and shows that live music in Ocelotshire is in safe hands indeed.

Plus he doesnt have to go to college in the morning we are told...

Check out Bradleys corner of the internet here: www.bradleycowtan.com

Featuring some of the best regional talent, all with a super cool theme.
