Steve Brown: Guitars, Pedal Keyboard & Vocals

Photo of Steve

Steve got his first guitar at eight years old — inspired by his big brother who had a 12-string. His school band went on to tour Europe and Steve knew then what he wanted to do with his life. He was first introduced to Rush and rock at age 13 by a friend who loaned him 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Led Zep 4, Black Sabbath’s Greatest Hits and Back In Black — what a baptism of fire that night became!

He first saw Rush on the Signals tour and has caught them on every UK tour since plus shows in Boston, Toronto and Amsterdam. Since hooking up with online forums such as TRAC (The Rush Atlantic Connection) every show has been a blast catching up with like-minded fans from all over the globe.

Steve started RUSHfest Scotland at the end of 2013 and now brings hundreds of fans to Scotland every year and has produced 2 volumes of Songs For Neil albums. Profits from these events and album sales have so far raised over £78k for cancer charities. Vol.3 will be released on 12 Sept 2023.

Steve turned full time professional musician in 1993 and has gigged every weekend since, from bowling alleys in Thurso, to amphitheatres in Japan, to dodgy late night TV shows like this onewith his original rock band Seeing Red back in 1991.

Eóin de Paor (John Power): Vocals, Bass & Keys

Photo of John

Raised in a musical environment in which Chopin and Tommy Makem and the Clancy brothers or The Chieftains were equally likely to be thundering from his Dad’s piano or Bang and Olufsen, John / Eóin (he answers to either) was taught his first guitar chords at the age of 4 by family friend, Harvey Broadbent. Given the racket subsequently created, Harvey’s emigration to Australia shortly afterwards was probably a wise move…

Classically trained on the piano from the age of 7, John naturally gravitated towards strings and by 12 had written off any instrument that wasn’t portable as “Furniture”. Since the piano definitely fell into that category, his musical course was set and Guitars, Basses, Violins, Mandolins (and the flute?!) have occupied his time ever since though keyboards have never quite been disposed of…

Introduced to Rush aged 12 by a school friend, early dabbling in classical guitar (inspired by John Williams and Sky) were replaced by the desire to learn Alex’s parts. Unable to do this convincingly on a ¾ sized classical, he reasoned (with the laughable ignorance of youth) that the bass line must be easier to play and the rest as they say, is hysterical…

Having played in a variety of styles and genres over the years including an Irish folk band and the composition of two Theatrical scores for Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet (where he discovered to his surprise that Classically strained string quartets do NOT improvise — who knew?) whilst holding down the teaching day job, he was ready for something a bit different. The invitation to join Counterparts, ten years ago at the time of writing, allowed a return to those brilliant bass lines and it was like coming home. He is honoured to be a member of moving Pictures and delighted to have the excuse to pass the Failte gu Alba sign more regularly.

He first saw Rush at the Birmingham NEC on the Show of hands tour and is somewhere on the video on Geddy’s side about half way down. In his dotage, he continues to find new inspiration in many genres and is particularly fond of Francisco Tarrega, Issac Albeniz, Irish folk, Radiohead and Muse but it’s the Canadian prog trio who remain the constant in his musical life.

The great Jazz pianist, Jacques Loussier (his arrangement of Air on a G string accompanied a well known cigar advert) once said that in his opinion, J S Bach wrote the greatest rock bass lines in history. I like Jacques but he was wrong. The greatest bass lines in history were written by a Canadian…

Ciaran Whyte: Dep Drummer

Photo of Ciaran

On the odd occassion when Jamie isn’t available — this fine young lad helps out.

Ciaran got his first drum kit when he was 8 years old, accompanied with lessons at the Graham Laurie School of Music in his home town of Paisley, Scotland. He continued with lessons throughout his education, and began gigging in his early teens through his parents who had a ceilidh band and also led a contemporary worship band at a church on a Sunday morning. In essence, Ciaran was always surrounded by music, so a career in the industry was always on the cards. After a brief meander to Glasgow University for a year to study maths, he then shifted his focus entirely on becoming a full-time musician, and 6 years later, he is continuing to live the dream (as long as the dream involves freezing yourself half to death on streets around Scotland as you busk to try to earn enough money to survive in the winter.)

Oh, and, of course, Rush played a big role in sparking Ciaran’s dream of pursuing a career in music. His dad sat him down when he was a wee boy and stuck Red Barchetta on the CD player, and from that moment onwards, Ciaran was mesmerised by the chops of Neil Peart and always inspired him to keep playing.

Wrong Jovi are widely considered to be “the best Bon Jovi tribute band in the world!” So much so, that even the former Bon Jovi guitarist, Richie Sambora, has personally thanked the band for their hard work and unforgettable performances. In their 7 years of touring, the band have performed across the world and featured on the BBC prime-time TV show, Even Better Than The Real Thing. 2019 saw Wrong Jovi perform over 100 shows around the world. Selling out music venues and theatres across the UK and headlining festivals in Malta, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, as well as back home in the UK – including a headline slot on the Electro Love stage at 2019’s Isle Of Wight Festival. Performing a set of greatest hits, live favourites and rarities, the band ensure that there is something for the casual follower and even the most die hard of Bon Jovi fans.
Ally Ward takes on the role of Jon Bon Jovi, baring a striking resemblance to one of rocks most iconic showmen. Not only does he look like Jon, Ally unleashes a vocal so strong that audience members actually believe they are watching Bon Jovi at their very peak – some say he is even better than the real Jon Bon Jovi. Mark Harding takes on the role of Richie Sambora, reproducing the his fiery licks and riffs as well as Sambora’s smooth vocal lines with flare and precision that is unrivalled – he is also a dead ringer for one of Rock N’ Roll’s most recognisable guitarists. On keyboards is Simon Tabert as David Bryan – one of the UK’s finest musicians, Simon performs the songs with precision like no other and is a key factor in ensuring Wrong Jovi are top of the tribute tree. James Houghton, Wrong Jovi’s Hugh McDonald, has performed with acts such as Phil Collins, Mott The Hoople and Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts, opening for acts such as Guns N’ Roses and Rod Stewart – his bass lines and experience are invaluable to the band. Alex Sturgeon completes the line up as drummer, Tico Torres. Alex is one of the UK’s best young drummers and provides the thunderous drumming that drives the Wrong Jovi show.
Despite the majority of 2020 being wiped out by Covid-19, Wrong Jovi are intent on making up for lost time in 2021. The band will be embarking on a tour of theatres and large music venues in the UK, as well as taking the show out to Europe and beyond. The hit singles, Livin’ On A Prayer, Always, You Give Love A Bad Name and Wanted Dead Or Alive are joined by live favourites and rarities such as Blood On Blood, Dry County, Wild Is The Wind and This Ain’t A Love Song, ensuring that a Wrong Jovi show is the ultimate tribute to New Jersey’s finest stadium rock band.
So, are you ready for One Wild Night of Bon Jovi hits, live favourites and rarities? Wrong Jovi will transport you back to the days when Bon Jovi were the best live act on the planet and transform venues and theatres into stadiums for the ultimate Bon Jovi tribute show. The Ramonas – 2023

The Ramonas are the very best in tribute acts to the iconic New York forerunners of
punk; The Ramones.
The band began in 2004 and has since evolved into the ultimate re-creation of the 1976
spirit of the definite garage rock band. Known for high energy performances that thrill the
audiences with all the classic songs, you better be going to see them play!
“Touring, Touring is never boring” and these girls are guaranteed to play high energy, full
throttle one hour shows that’ll leave you buzzing for more of that 1976 spirit.
The Ramonas not only perform sets of Ramones tunes; since 2016 they have also
written and released a number of self-penned albums and EP’s.
2024 will see The Ramonas performing your favourite Ramones hits along with new
material from their latest album Haphazard.
“Blasting the tunes relentlessly, one after the other with barely room for a single breath in
between, this band are passionate and dedicated to what they do, without becoming the
Ramones they really embrace their tenacity and spirit, and they rocked the bustling Maze
on this night with a vigour.” – Generation Hush
“The Ramonas rocked hard – if there is such a title as best tribute act – then this band
deserves the aforementioned accolade like no other! Frontwoman Cloey Ramona’s (no,
everyone’s) performance was one hundred per cent physical and simply stunning.” –
Louder Than War

Praying Mantis

With their latest critically acclaimed album ‘GRAVITY’ released via Frontier Records in May 2018, Praying Mantis continue to tour with their current band members Chris Troy, Tino Troy, Andy Burgess, John ‘Jaycee’ Cuijpers and Hans in ‘t Zandt. The band are now producing music which is some of the best in their 46-year history, but where did it all start and why are they still regarded as relevant in 2019?

Early Days

Praying Mantis were formed in London, England, in 1973 by brothers Chris and Tino Troy. The music scene of the late 70’s was widely regarded as stagnant in the wake of a dying punk scene so it became time for a new breed of British bands to emerge and establish themselves with their own creative style of music. Through Neal Kay, DJ at THE BANDWAGON, North London’s premier hard rock disco, a new movement was being formed and today this story has become folk law to Hard Rock fans all over the world. Due to Neal’s much appreciated support, Mantis were given a platform to air their music, which featured classics ‘Captured City’ and ‘Lovers to the Grave’.

Along with fellow London bands Iron Maiden, Angel Witch and Samson, Praying Mantis quickly established themselves and rapidly received the attention of the music press of the time. Along with a number of similar bands across the UK this entire movement was labelled by `Sounds` as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Spearheaded by Praying Mantis (and Iron Maiden), NWOBHM (as it became known) went on to dominate the Hard Rock scene in the early 80’s, especially after the release of ‘Metal for Muthas’, a compilation album consisting of bands that had played at The Bandwagon. NWOBHM was just what the UK needed at the time; fresh, exciting music with energetic live performances and a togetherness that created a spirit of comradery between fans and bands alike.

The debut album ‘Time Tells No Lies’ received much critical acclaim and the single ‘Cheated’ went top 40 in the UK Charts in 1980. During this period, Iron Maiden and Praying Mantis were closely paired in many areas and formed a strong musical relationship, regularly playing together through the promotion of ‘Metal for Muthas’ which included an extensive UK Tour.

In 1990 this relationship saw Dennis Stratton and Paul Di’Anno (ex-Iron Maiden) join Praying Mantis on stage to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the NWOBHM in Japan. Dennis later joined the band on a full-time basis, as did Clive Burr (ex-Iron Maiden) and Gary Barden (ex-MSG).

Since then, Praying Mantis have released many successful albums with Pony Canyon in Japan, and this became one of the band’s major territories.

The New Millenium

In 2007, guitarist Andy Burgess replaced Dennis Stratton in the line-up, continuing the dual lead for the famous Mantis guitar harmonies.  He has also proved to be a strong songwriter and influence in the band.

In 2013, vocalist John Cuijpers and drummer Hans in ‘t Zandt joined the band replacing Mike Freeland and Gary Mackenzie. The Dutch duo has vast experience in their fields having toured with the likes of Toto, Jeff Scott Soto, Mad Max, Sinner and Vengeance. This has added a new and exciting dimension to the band’s music and live performances.

In 2015  ‘Legacy’  formalised the new line-up and the album received great reviews and sales all over the world. The band promoted the album by touring as far as Japan, twice!

The current album ‘GRAVITY’ is being hailed as one of the band’s finest to date and is still receiving stunning views across the world. It was well received in the album charts, reaching number 23 in the UK, 70 in Switzerland and an impressive number 6 in Japan.

To hear and see the band now, fans will experience both the spirit and energy of 1980 together with a technical style that really compliments today’s standards. The band will continue to promote `GRAVITY` and take our music to the people before planning a new album.

JORDEN RED

As featured on BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio, Loudwire, Planet Rock, The Noise & RAMzine, Jordan Red fuse the melodic elements of 21st-century rock and alternative metal with the aggressive high energy pulse of modern punk.

Formed by frontman Dan Leigh and guitarist Dan Baker, Jordan Red set up base in London, UK and developed a powerful, anthemic sound with an emphasis on big riffs and even bigger choruses.

Jordan Red entered Long Wave Studios in Cardiff with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon/Bullet For My Valentine/Don Broco) to record their debut album ‘Hands That Built The World,’ joined by bassist Conor O’Keefe and drummer Dave Fee of As Lions (Eleven Seven Music).

The high energy debut ‘Beautiful Monsters’ launched Jordan Red with an explosive video produced by Sitcom Soldiers (All Time Low/Sleeping With Sirens/Of Mice And Men). Their fourth single, ‘Way Down’ premiered on Kerrang! Radio and was added to Amazon Music UK’s “Best New Bands” list in 2020.

Jordan Red made their BBC Radio 1 debut with hard hitting new single ‘Awake’ on BBC Introducing Rock with Alyx Holcombe in October 2022. This was followed by multiple plays on Kerrang! Radio Unleashed: Johnny Doom and picked by Wyatt Wendels for ‘New Rock Show Track Of The Week’ on Planet Rock.

In 2022, they self-released their debut album, “Hands That Built The World”, which entered the Official Charts peaking at #14 in Independent Albums Breakers and #16 in the Top 40 Rock and Metal Albums Charts.

With live dates on the horizon, prepare to hear Jordan Red raise their voice where others fall silent.
